To me this is reimagining the Gospel story of the feeding of the 5,000 not just as about prosperity but also power. Give away everything and watch what happens.
I so want to see this become a thing. I can Imagine the creativity that comes out of all those brains working together. Hope the new party decides to become a truly new party.
Anyone who hasn't made the connection between Starmer and Zionism isn't paying attention. He seems handpicked to do very little other than prop up genocide and ecocide.
You've really hit the nail on the head here. I hope this way of thinking - the way of service, empowerment and love - becomes more widespread. As it happens I'm currently exploring very similar ideas in an essay I'm writing.
It sounds interesting. I am reminded of taking Ginseng, Gaz and tarps to Occupy in my town. I never understood what they wanted. Our municipal government already had these community sessions at our exhibition centre every year. The infamous Neo-liberl Bill Clinton had had those Town Halls. There was talk of some kind of UN framework for community? That actually scares me as a fan of Elinor Ostrom. As far as I was concerned the only Occupy with a point was in America. While Žizek told them to demand nothing he legitimised all Occupy movements to curiously later call them thugs as the wind shifted. While as I saw it they should have demanded Universal Healthcare and the arrest of Bush. What's the point I’m making? Well it's more of a concern for where the power is going to come from to effect the change. To decolonise power not political through social. What if some of these people in Corbyn’s party manage to get people hurdled and excited about Proportional Representaion and reoccupy the party with the political. There's no justification for legitimising a political party or class through proportional Representation. So assuming that Corbyn’s party can avoid this political trap/slight of hand, what can be done to decolonise power through social.
I’m not a big fan of the Climate Change Lobby. In my point of view they set back environmental and social movements a century at Rio in 1992. But I think I talked to you via Twitter comments. You're a real good fellow, articulate, knowledgeable of the facts and statistics, with a clear understanding of local issues. It's particularly important to me as I see Activists glad handing the criminal officials that attend Climate Change sumits. The ones who give our phony prizes in economics for pushing Carbon Schemes…shoot I am ranting.
Going down the cours of time though we’ve seen people, as the trope goes, switch to LED and recycle etc. try to move back to the circular economies we had before the 90’s. We found out that we shipped our recycling to Asia to be dumped in the sea. What Ophra called electric vampires in our CD players pale in comparison to the reported drain on electric grids by AI. We off shore emmisions etc. What's the point again?
I agree with you on something that I have felt for a long time. To build it and let people see it's been built. To let that be an example. As far as I have been concerned since before An Inconvenient Truth, fight emmisions is the reasons that emmisions increase. From the news though we can see that our leaders are always chasing that dragon. The latest a death machine powered by Hydrogen for 20 hours. I don't even dispute it works, and can imagine fuel is fuel logistically.
Yet, what is going to ensure that that municipale council’s declaration of bankruptcy doesn't happen. I have the outmost faith in the people as together solving any problem and turning problems into maintainance and progress. Yet, there's a long history of indexing workers, calling for government do do something and stepping aside when government evokes “needs must.” I am afraid that things are critical and Burkina Faso just might be the only option to look at that's left. To fight climate change by building a society that is functional at this point the very streets and homes and water under people's feet need saving from the fire sales.
It's a tight rope. Žižek himself in his vulgar ranting believes it's the big that empower the small and there's no point arguing with him when people are on their last leg. So, what is going to carry over from discussing things to taking power at local levels. To not get power by not wanting power, to give that power away. I am by no means a radical. I hate revolution at this point because I can't think of one generation that went from cradle to grave with stability and fulfillment. Yet, I have to say that at this point people will have to invent power structures and tell municipale officials that's the way it's going to be, and I don't mean what I considered my greatest example of adults sunning, getting children to clean up roadsides.
I was at one of the rebellion gatherings at Trafalgar Square until the police came. It was a joyous peaceful gathering. I was with a friend who had Parkinson’s, we were advised to sit down so it would be harder for the police to move us. My friend couldn’t sit down….so we had to leave….Thank you Roger, I’m grateful to have felt part of something worthwhile and positive
Agreed. The best thing about XR, speaking as someone who was on the edges of it, was the culture of respect, responsibility and service it embodied. I would add, there is still a lot of that culture in the UK still, despite everything, and if we point it out and celebrate it, we strengthen it
Lots of great advice here Roger. I’m not as convinced by sortition for determining party policy - it misses giving the opportunity for the millions of others to have a say and keep building community and networks in doing so
Thanks Roger! “May the Power of Love overcome the love of power”
That is just wonderful, inspiring stuff. So much good advice in there for those involved in this next critical phase. Thank you.

Very eloquently put Roger! 👍😁🙏
Let it happen.
The simplicity hurts Roger. 😁👍
Beautifully to the point Roger. We need a politics that works from the ground up and takes into account the needs of every member of society.
Bravo.
